PRN Thirumurugan

PRN Thirumurugan is a three-time AINRC legislator who represents Karaikal North in the outgoing Puducherry Assembly. He quit the Congress party to contest on an AINRC ticket from Karaikal North in the 2011 Assembly polls. He is the son of former Congress MLA PR Nalamaharajan, making him a second-generation politician from Karaikal.

Thirumurugan holds a BA in Sociology (Tamil) from Annamalai University, Chidambaram. He won the Karaikal North seat in 2016 on the AINRC ticket and was re-elected from the constituency in the 2021 Assembly polls. A Ministry of Home Affairs notification in March 2024 appointed Thirumurugan as a Minister in the Puducherry Cabinet, filling the vacancy created by the controversial exit of Chandira Priyanga from Nedungadu.

In the 2021 election, he defeated Congress rival AV Subramanian by 12,569 votes in a decisive verdict. His 2026 candidature from Karaikal North extends what has now become a constituency he has held through three consecutive elections, making him one of the most durable NDA legislators in the Karaikal region.
