Four states and one Union Territory of India will go to Assembly elections this year: West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. Across these five regions, a total of 824 Assembly constituencies will elect their next Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). As of March 2026, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is in the final stages of announcing the schedule for these high-stakes elections. The terms of the four states are set to expire in May, while the term of the Union Territory’s Assembly will end in June 2026.
